As any professional home stager will tell you, there are a lot of decisions to be made with respect to what changes are made within a home. The decisions can range from big to small. However, the impact of that change needs to be substantial.
Preparing your home for the market can be tough. One of the greatest benefits of hiring a professional home stager is that they understand what changes need to be made to have the greatest impact.
Which leads me to this home staging we did last Friday in Atlanta. With a few small changes, the room went through a pretty significant transformation.
Here's how the room appeared when we arrived.
We made a total of three changes. Here is the after picture:
So what were the three changes:
- We removed the red chair covers
- We replaced the centerpiece
- We added art
Whether the changes are small (as in this case) or big - making the home appeal to a broad base of prospective buyers is key.

Nice (and inexpensive!) changes. And it makes such a difference. Good job!
Very good example of how small changes can make a huge impact. Beautiful work. (what camera do you use? I just bought a Nikon D5000) I'm still trying to figure it out.
Kathy - You're so right - often small details carry a huge impact. Something as simple as adding artwork can completely alter a room for the better!
Kathy -- you made 4 changes, actually .... once the very effective staging was completed, you took an amazing photo to highlight all the great features of this space -- beautifully done!
Simple yet very effective Kathy! I never would have thought to use the base of a old iron sewing machine table for a breakfast table (although I have one as a sofa/end table in my house even). I just need a larger top or round glass (have that too)!
Kathy- it's the little things that can make a big change! Love the color of that room.
Looks great, as you say some simple changes can create as amazing result. I have tried to describ doing
a specific change in detail and get a headlight in the eyes look. Then when I actually make the change
are like Oh yeah! I see now that looks great! Just have to have that special eye for things...
Richard - you're right. This was such an easy and expensive change. Thanks for commenting.
Hi, Chrissie - I have a Nikon D90 and love it.
Sally - so true. Artwork can make a huge difference.
Maureen - that was super sweet. Thank you.
Karen - The homeowner deserves all the credit. I loved it.
Thanks, David.
Kathy S - Me too (smile).
Brenda - I know what you mean. Sometimes, they just have to see it (in this case, they did) to understand completely.
Kathy
You are so right - just a few minor changes makes a huge difference in appearance.
Taking the covers off the chairs lets you see the room--that red was hogging all the attention. Great job!
Nice and simple...makes all the difference!
Simple changes, big impact - great job Kathy and this illustrates who a little staging goes a long way! Love the dining chairs you brought in!
Hi Kathy, another fine example of less is more. Kudos to a night and day makeover by making three changes. How more simple can it be? The difference is that a professiona home stager was brought in who could see the details of the room when others did not. I think I have been inspired once again.
Simple but effective changes it looks fabulous Kathy!
Kathy, you are so right! I had a similar situation recently right before an open house. I made a few changes that uplifted the house. Staging is about using things correctly.
